It is another great new song that I could see being a great studio album, but might be the weakest of the three for me personally. Klaus joins in and sounds great as usual. The final new song is “I Wanted to Cry (But the Tears Wouldn’t Come)” and it slows things back down as it opens softly and slowly with a piano. The quick tempo, the raucous keyboards, the drum beat all makes you want to kick off the dust and grab your boots and line dance with the crowd (not sure if that is a good thing or not). “Catch Your Train” becomes a bluesy piano honky tonk at times. The female vocals water the song down a little and overall isn’t as exciting as the original, although the crowd seems to love it. Then we get “Send Me An Angel” which they change up the opening and it sounds a little like a fast “Under Pressure” that is until the piano kicks in and the cello to bring back that familiar sound. The tempo is a little faster than you’d expect, but still great. The violin I believe is handled by a cello here. Klaus handles the vocals perfectly and nice to hear the band actually do some covers. The percussion work on here is wonderful as well. They didn’t stray from the heart of this. Then we get the first cover and this one is “Dust in the Wind” by Kansas and I feel they nail this one as the guitar work is exceptional and sounds like the song. But it is another ballad, a little more uptempo at times, but still a ballad in this format. I think it could work in to a better studio version. The second new song is “When Love Kills Love” and I think it is another great song, the cello is a nice touch, but overall a little cheesy with the female backing vocals on the chorus. The biggest difference is the drums are pulled back and not as prominent, but it still works. The crowd is really in to this one, they’ve added more piano. The song was mostly acoustic and the album so fits naturally here. This is followed by “You and I” off ‘Pure Instinct’. With the bongos and the latin flair, “Holiday” feels like a sunny vacation at the beach. The chorus is really catchy which helps draw you in and as the song builds it just keeps getting better. I would really love to hear a studio version as this is really a great song. It is another ballad but it really shows the maturity of the band. First one up is “Life is Too Short” and this one brings some string orchestration. After this one we get the first of three new songs. Ballads usually work well in the acoustic setting and this one is no different. Then we get the ballad “Always Somewhere” and the crowd claps along and at times sings along, there are female backing vocals and Klaus sounds stellar. The set opens with “The Zoo” and it has this cool groove which is almost like ‘Black Velvet” by Alannah Myles. With all that, it made this a very worthwhile purchase to get all the songs we hadn’t heard before. And on top of that, we got a handful of great covers from The Cars, Kansas and Queen. We actually were treated to 3 brand new songs (four if you got the DVD). We got the biggest hits, no doubt, but that wasn’t all. The band also were great in giving us a few things extra on this release. They really went all out to bring a different experience and I would say it worked pretty well. They were Hille Bemelmanns, Liv Van Aelst and Kristel Van Craen. And to fill up the stage even more, there was a cellist, Ariana Acu and a group of female vocalists to help with backing vocals. James might have been on drums, but they also had a percussionist by the name of Mario Argandona. Christian was also the one who was the conductor and arranged the Scorpions songs for the Moment of Glory Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra album the prior year. On keyboards was Christian Kolonovitis who also helped the band arrange the songs for the acoustic set. The actually had three guitarists and the third was Johan Daansen which really fills the songs up with that acoustic guitar sound. Yes, Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker, Mathias Jabs, Ralph Rieckermann and James Kottak performed, but they weren’t alone. The show was a little unusual for the band as it was just the normal guys. The album was released a few months later on May 14, 2001. From those 3 shows, the album called “Acoustica” was made. The band performed 3 shows at the Convento do Beato in Lisbon, Portugal in February 2001 and those shows were recorded. The Scorpions were in a mood to keep doing things their own way and after doing an album and touring the classically orchestrated Scorpions rock, they decided to strip it all back and do some shows acoustically.

According to the paper, these properties, along with a high degree of porosity make the material a promising candidate for chemical and pressure sensing. The MWNT aerogels are impressively strong in compression and extremely elastic (squishable) exhibiting a rapid rebound. Note the use of freeze drying here instead of supercritical drying is possible thanks to the improved mechanical properties of the gels which make them more resistant to cracking during solvent removal. Finally methanol and ammonia are removed by exchanging the gel into water and the gel is freeze-dried to obtain MWNT aerogels. An aqueous ammonia solution is then added to crosslink the gel for 12 h by hydrolysis and condensation of the PTMSPMA, during which time the gel shrinks a bit. The resulting gel is aged for 12 h at room temperature and then solvent exchanged into methanol to remove chloroform. The dispersion of MWNTs then gels in several minutes to several hours depending on the concentration of MWNTs. This anchors a molecule called PTMSPMA on the surface of the nanotubes. Pristine MWNTs are dispersed as individual tubes in chloroform with a compound called poly(3-hexylthiophene)-b-PTMSPMA (P3HT-b-PTMSPMA) by sonicating for 13 min. Aerogel and hydrogels can be synthesized from a variety of substances like polyelectrolytes, biomaterials, polymers, nanomaterials, etc. Unfortunately, this is not the case: scientists at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory have previously produced a silica aerogel with a density of only 1.1 mg/cc, these ones here are 4 mg/cc. Hype alert: There is a statement being circulated on the Internet that one of the MWNT aerogels these researchers made is the lowest-density aerogel (and thus solid) ever produced. But it’s a new pathway to making CNT-based aerogels and the resulting materials are pretty cool. Notably this is not the first aerogel made from carbon nanotubes (or CNTs for short if you’re hip to the materials crowd), nor is it the first CNT-based aerogel to exhibit amazing elastic properties. This is an ideal characteristic for electronics. More-so, the aerogel has a large surface area and conducts electricity very well, but is a thermal insulator. This material is particularly interesting because it is composed of a dispersion of MWNTs which leave a honeycomb structure with controllable porosity. The work was recently published in ACS Nano and you can view the full manuscript here. Lei Zhai at the University of Central Florida have fabricated a multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWNT) aerogel with an astonishing density of just four milligrams per cubic centimeter! Finally, the free-standing AgNW/MWNT hybrid TCEs can be laminated onto a wide range of substrates without the need of a bonding aid.Researchers lead by Dr. Thus, a wide range of AgNW/MWNT hybrid TCEs with optimized optoelectronic properties can be achieved depending of the requirements needed. The final AgNW/MWNT hybrid TCEs transmittance and sheet resistance can be fine-tuned by spray-coating mechanisms or by choosing initial MWNT aerogel density. Additionally, anisotropic reduction in sheet resistance and polarized transmittance of AgNW/MWNT aerogels is achieved with this method. Simultaneously, a strong decrease in sheet resistance is obtained when AgNWs form a percolated network along the MWNT aerogel. Counterintuitively, the transmittance of the hybrid electrodes can be increased as the mass density of AgNWs within the MWNT aerogels increases, however, the final achievable transmittance depends on the initial transparency of the MWNT aerogels. Flexible, free-standing transparent conducting electrodes (TCEs) with simultaneously tunable transmittances up to 98% and sheet resistances down to 11 ?/sq were prepared by a facile spray-coating method of silver nanowires (AgNWs) onto dry-spun multiwall carbon nanotube (MWNT) aerogels. One of my biggest frustrations with other photo editing software is feeling like I can't get enough specificity with color editing. One of the features I was most excited to test in Photo Studio Ultimate 2021 is the brand new Color Wheel feature. An Info Palette with your image's EXIF data hovers in the bottom right corner, but you can choose to hide it or dock it with another menu. On the right side of the screen, you'll find the histogram, presets (yes, you can make your own), and edit history. I edited my photos by going through the tools from top to bottom and that seemed like a natural and successful workflow. Develop Tools are located on the left so settings like exposure adjustments, white balance, curves, and color wheels are all available in collapsible menus. There are left-hand and right-hand control panels that can be arranged and customized a bit to your preference. The layout of the software is pretty straightforward. There are lots of tools along the left-hand side, so while it will take some time to explore and learn them all, you definitely have plenty of control. The layout of the Develop module is very straightforward and well organized. Raw images are decoded quickly (50% faster than previous iterations of the software), so when you click on a thumbnail to start editing, it's up on the screen and ready to adjust right away. Users of previous versions of Photo Studio Ultimate will be excited to know that this new version loads up 100% faster, meaning you can get to editing with zero lag time. All of your images pop up in thumbnail form, ready to go. Just start the program and choose the folder that you want to work from on your computer or hard drive. There's no need to create catalogs, upload, or import your photos. Using bolder shapes, making sure the silhouettes are readable, so you can not only enjoy the designs of the characters and zones but also so you can understand what you're doing. "Obviously some of it is a stylistic decision, but a lot of that style comes through a practical way of making sure it's readable. "That's where a lot of the art style fell into place," Schulz said. We do have a few Paragon trees that have group bonuses that make you more lethal when in a group with other classes, but ultimately the goal was to just make classes that feel great, and we did a lot of testing and balancing to make sure they were all on equal footing."ĭiablo is known for its huge numbers of enemies, impressive skills, and piles of loot, and having all of that happen on the smaller screen of a mobile device, rather than a large PC monitor, proved to be the main challenge for the game's art design, according to lead artist Hunter Schulz. All these classes can deal damage and have a great time. We're not relying on the holy trinity of healer, tank, and damage. "They are very similar to previous Diablo games. "These classes are true Diablo classes," Burgess said. The game may feature MMO elements, but don't expect to find the "holy trinity" of MMO class design anywhere among Diablo Immortal's character classes, which includes the Barbarian, Monk, Crusader, Demon Hunter, Necromancer, and Wizard at launch. While Diablo Immortal is breaking new ground both as the franchise's first mobile and free-to-play entry and as a more social-focused, live-service MMO, it was important that the game feel like a true Diablo experience. Diablo Immortal's Barbarian plays exactly like fans of the franchise expect. Those are all firsts for the franchise, and some of those features-like various PvP modes and a multiplayer hub town-were ideas that originated during Diablo III's development. "We feel like it's at a really good point."ĭiablo Immortal will feature numerous MMO-like elements, such as multiplayer hub towns, eight-player raids, PvP battlegrounds, and the ambitious Cycle of Strife system. "Part of the reason we waited so long was we wanted to make sure the polish of the game was at a point where we were happy with it and happy to release it simultaneously with the mobile launch," Burgess said. As for why it took so long to officially announce Diablo Immortal for PC, Burgess said it came down to polish. Combined with the realization that dedicated PC players would simply use mobile emulators to access the game on PC regardless, Blizzard began the process of creating the PC version to ensure players would have an official PC experience. Back then, it was immediately clear Diablo fans wanted the option to play Diablo Immortal on PC, but it took Blizzard time-over three years-to make that wish a reality.Īccording to senior game designer Scott Burgess, who recently spoke with GameSpot, Blizzard knew following the game's announcement that fans wanted to be able to play Diablo Immortal on PC. That's good news, because while Diablo Immortal might not look it at first glance, it's shaping up to be a major game-changer for the franchise going forward, sporting MMO-like social features, an emphasis on PvP, and a live-service, "living game" strategy never before seen in the history of Diablo.įor the Diablo franchise's most dedicated fans, it was the news the game would also come to PC that helped reset the stage following the disaster that was Diablo Immortal's official announcement. Whether you're looking to add brightly colored and aromatic flowers, lay vines to extend the garden aesthetic, or set up some shade plants, you're only as limited as your imagination and soil availability. Ideal for blending in with outdoor decor, the integrated deck bench planter can let you combine nature directly into your deck design. These three-sided designs are also great for helping to define or redefine the edges of a space. It has many of the same advantages as an L-shaped deck bench, in that it's great for setting up spaces for conversation. A U-shaped deck bench sometimes has longer arms and sometimes offers shorter, stubbier arms. And on that list, few entries can compete with a U-shaped design. It's typically easier to find good placement for softer curvature, but the more aggressive curvatures provide a more striking appearance.ĭeck ideas with built in seating can be divided into how much seating they provide. Most curved deck benches utilize a “C” shape, but the curvature of that shape can vary considerably. With the right placement, an L-shaped deck bench also provides two excellent vantage points. By placing rows of seating nearly adjacent to each other, you can facilitate conversation between larger groups. While railing will always be necessary, using a deck bench instead of railing can be a viable substitute L-shaped Deck BenchĪn L-shaped deck bench is fantastic for corners and making the most of your deck’s space. Incorporating your seating with railing is both an easy DIY project and a simple way to create a better sense of continuity between your decking and seating arrangements. Deck Bench Railing CombinationĪ deck bench railing combination can help elegantly combine necessary railing along with your seating. These designs can provide easy accessibility to whatever you need at a moment's notice, from cooking ware to blankets. But one of the simpler and more elegant options is to integrate that storage into a deck bench. Deck Bench with StorageĪfter the structure has been built, finding ways to add storage to your deck can be difficult. Plus, backed benches can be used to help partially enclose an area. The height and angle of the back can provide a variety of comfort options, including the ability to add comfy, colorful pillows. If you're going to be seated outdoors for more than a couple of minutes, deck bench seating with a back will typically provide more comfort. Secondly, a backless design allows for more sitting positions. The first is that this particular type of deck bench is less visually intrusive, allowing you a more unobstructed view of your surroundings. Putting aside style, there are basically two practical reasons to prefer a backless deck bench. They can be used to help visually enclose an area, provide spillover seating, deliver storage space, incorporate nature, or otherwise deliver much more than you might expect at first glance. Built-in deck benches can easily accommodate larger groups of friends, as well as smaller groups. It's never a bad idea to have a few extra seats. But exploring the full extent of your options can help you make a fully informed decision, which makes browsing a few deck bench ideas a good place to start. And including either stand-alone or built-in benches on a deck can be versatile enough to serve more than one function, from providing a more welcoming area to guests to delivering raw aesthetic appeal.īetween different styles of benches, material types, and varying price points, you'll need to weigh more than a few considerations while designing your ideal seating arrangement. From a solitary morning breakfast to an evening party with friends, decks can serve countless purposes. In each session directory are a persistent.sfs and if quicksaves were used quicksave.sfs. To find out why spring isolators can outperform rubber isolators watch this informative video which explains the importance of static deflection in the performance of vibration isolation systems. Have you ever wondered exactly why a spring isolator can outperform a rubber isolator? The springs create an air gap that allows for free oscillation of the equipment with minimal transfer of energy into the structure. Under industrial machinery, spring mountings produce a higher static deflection rate than rubber neoprene isolators. The fact is, not all vibration challenges can be solved with rubber isolators. However, it is spring isolators that often perform better than rubber isolators. There are a number of equipment vibration isolation solutions. Both to maximize the life of industrial machinery and keep work and residential spaces happy and safe. The sylomer mat that these dampers incorporate, isolates the mid-high frequency vibrations which are transmitted through the coils of the metal springs. In this paper, a novel 6-DOF QZS vibration isolation platform based on leaf spring structure is presented. It is important to find a solution to these unwanted vibration and noise problems. Multi-degree-of-freedom isolator with low stiffness is a fair prospect in engineering application. It can also result in distracting noise that can disrupt critical workflows and the peaceful enjoyment of our homes. Vibration and instability can shorten the life of any equipment. ^ a b c "Mark Williams Company Sources".On January 3, 2015, Coherent sources were released under the BSD-3-Clause license. The Mark Williams Company closed in 1995. In 1983, NCSC (a subsidiary of Nixdorf) announced a port of Coherent to IBM mainframes, in the form of a Unix compatibility subsystem for IBM's DOS/VS and DOS/VSE and Nixdorf's Edos/VS and Edos/VSE operating systems, known as Programmer Work Station/VSE-Advanced Functions, or PWS/VSE-AF for short. The last 386 versions supported virtual memory, but not demand paging.Ī Zilog Z8000 port of Coherent was also used by the canceled Commodore 900 system. The final releases of Coherent also fully supported the iBCS COFF binary standard, which allowed binary compatibility with SCO Unix applications, including WordPerfect, Lotus 1-2-3, and several Microsoft applications including QuickBASIC, Microsoft Word, and MultiPlan. Later versions of Coherent (version 4 and higher) supported features common in modern Unix-like systems, including a version of MicroEMACS, access to DOS FAT16 file systems, an optimizing C compiler, and a modified version of Taylor UUCP. From version 4, released 1992, Coherent also had support for X11 and MGR windowing systems. Like a true Unix, Coherent was able to multitask and support multiple users. Coherent version 3 for Intel-based PCs required at least a 286, Coherent version 4 for Intel-based PCs required at least a 386. Ĭoherent was able to run on most Intel-based PCs with Intel 8088, 286, 386, and 486 processors. A review in the AUUG's newsletter was more positive, favorably comparing Coherent to MKS Toolkit, Minix and Xenix, and suggesting it might fill a niche as a low-end training platform. PC Magazine called Coherent 3.0 a "time capsule" that captured the state of Unix in the late 1970s, without support for mice, LANs or SCSI disks, good for learning basic Unix programming but not for business automation. Early 1990s reviews of Coherent pointed out that the system was much smaller than other contemporary Unix offerings, as well as less expensive at US$99.95, but lacking in functionality and software support. In 1985 it criticized the difficulty of installation, but stated that "as a UNIX clone, Coherent is amazingly complete. īYTE in 1984 called Coherent a "highly compatible UNIX Version 7 lookalike". At this point, Coherent 2.3 offered roughly the functionality of Version 7 Unix on PC hardware, including the nroff formatter but not the BSD extensions offered by competing Unix/clone vendors compared to its competitors, it was a small system distributed on only seven double-sided floppy disks, costing only US$500 for a license. Initially sold to OEMs, starting 1983 it was available on the consumer market from MWC directly. Versions Ĭoherent was originally written for the PDP-11 range of minicomputers in 1980, then ported to various early 1980s microcomputer systems including IBM PC compatibles and machines based on the Zilog Z8000 and Motorola 68000. Significant contributions were also made by people such as Nigel Bree (from Auckland, New Zealand), the later author of Ghost. Much of the operating system was written by alumni from the University of Waterloo: Tom Duff, Dave Conroy, Randall Howard, Johann George, and Trevor John Thompson. If it came to it, I could never honestly testify that what they generated was irreproducible from the manual. It might have been that some parts were written with source nearby, but at least the effort had been made to rewrite. looking at various corners I couldn't find anything that was copied. The delegation included Dennis Ritchie, who concluded that "it was very hard to believe that Coherent and its basic applications were not created without considerable study of the OS code and details of its applications."
